At the very end of Taveuni’s road lies Lavena, part of the spectacular Bouma National Heritage Park. This mostly flat trail follows a stunning coastline of black and white sand beaches, lush rainforest, and vibrant village life, making it an easy and rewarding walk for all ages. Your journey ends with a refreshing swim beneath the beautiful double waterfall — the perfect reward after approximately 1.5 hours each way.
There are several ways to make your Lavena adventure even more memorable:

Boat & Walk – Take a scenic boat ride along Taveuni’s southern shoreline, past rocky headlands, sandy beaches, fringing reefs, and countless waterfalls. Return via the Lavena Coastal Walk with a local guide who will share stories of the area’s plants, history, and culture.
Whichever option you choose, Lavena promises an unforgettable taste of Taveuni’s wild beauty.

The first waterfall is just a flat, easy 10-minute walk from the entrance — perfect for all ages (even “grannies”), and the most photographed waterfall in Taveuni. For the more adventurous, continue on to the second and third waterfalls, where the trail becomes steeper and more challenging. Each step rewards you with breathtaking views, lush rainforest, and the refreshing reward of crystal-clear swimming pools beneath the falls.
Whether you stop at one or conquer all three, Tavoro is pure Taveuni magic.

Taveuni Island, Fiji
South Cape Blowholes
Located at the southernmost tip of Taveuni, the South Cape Blowholes are one of the island’s most dramatic natural attractions. Watching them in action is a truly spectacular sight and makes for a memorable stop when exploring southern Taveuni.
Formed by powerful ocean swells surging through black volcanic rock formations along the coral-rich Vuna Reef, seawater is forced into narrow crevices in the rocky coastline. When conditions are right, the pressure sends water shooting high into the air — sometimes reaching up to 50 metres — before falling back in a misty white spray.
Timing is everything, so visits are best planned around the tides to experience the blowholes at their most impressive. The area is also surrounded by quiet, unspoiled beaches, making it an ideal spot to relax or enjoy a picnic while taking in the rugged coastal beauty.

Taveuni Island, Fiji
Natural Waterslide – Waitavala
Just a short ride from Aroha, Taveuni’s Waitavala Natural Waterslide is one of the island’s most fun and unique outdoor experiences. This natural rock slide has been carved over time by flowing water, creating a smooth, meandering chute that drops about 50 m into a refreshing pool below — perfect for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike.
Local children often gather here to slide barefoot and show visitors how it’s done, and watching them is half the fun. If you’re feeling adventurous, you’re welcome to have a go yourself — just be sure to sit down rather than stand!
The walk down to the water is a pleasant stroll through tropical greenery, and the cool water makes this a great way to beat the island heat.

Taveuni Island, Fiji
The International Dateline
Just a short distance from the natural waterslide, you’ll find one of Taveuni’s most unique landmarks — the International Date Line. While Fiji observes a single national time zone, the 180° Meridian runs directly through Taveuni, making it one of the very few places in the world where you can physically stand on the line that separates one calendar day from the next.
Marked by a simple sign and set among lush greenery, it’s a fun and memorable photo opportunity — the only place in Fiji where you can stand with one foot in “yesterday” and the other in “today.”
It’s a quick and easy stop when exploring the island, and a great addition to a visit to the nearby Waitavala Natural Waterslide. A small landmark perhaps, but a very cool reminder of just how special Taveuni’s location is on the map.

Taveuni, Fiji
Bird Watching at Des Voeux Peak
Join our experienced local guide for an unforgettable birdwatching experience high in the rainforest around Des Voeux Peak — Fiji’s third-highest mountain and one of the best places in the country to spot rare and endemic birdlife.
This guided walk takes you through lush montane forest where many of Fiji’s most beautiful and unique birds live. The highlight for most visitors is the spectacular Orange Dove — a striking bird found only in Fiji and famous for the male’s vibrant orange feathers and olive-gold head. It’s one of the most colourful doves in the world and a true bucket-list sighting for bird lovers.
Our guide knows these forests intimately and is known locally as a bit of a “bird whisperer,” with an exceptional ability to locate the Orange Dove — often guaranteeing guests the chance to see this rare species in its natural habitat.
Along the way you may also encounter other remarkable birds that call Taveuni home, including the dazzling Collared Lory, the Red Shining Parrot, the impressive Yellow-billed Giant Honeyeater, and the elusive Taveuni Silktail and Azure-crested Flycatcher — species found only in Fiji’s forests.
With over two dozen bird species endemic to Fiji and thriving rainforest habitat on Taveuni, the island is considered one of the best birdwatching destinations in the South Pacific.
Whether you’re an avid birdwatcher or simply enjoy nature, this tour offers a peaceful and fascinating way to experience the rainforest and discover some of Fiji’s most extraordinary wildlife.

Soqulu Golf Course
For a relaxed round of golf in a truly tropical setting, visit Soqulu Golf Course on Taveuni’s beautiful coastline. This charming 9-hole, par-3 course hugs the shoreline, with many holes offering sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and nearby coral reefs.
The course follows the natural contours of the land, creating a fun and slightly adventurous round sometimes affectionately called “island golf.” It’s perfect for both experienced golfers looking for a casual game and beginners wanting to enjoy a scenic introduction to the sport.
Clubs, pull buggy, golf balls and tees are available, making it easy for visitors to simply turn up and play. A relaxed game here is less about perfect greens and more about soaking up the incredible coastal views and laid-back island atmosphere.

Taveuni, Fiji
Des Voeux Peak & Lake Tagimoucia
For adventurous guests, a trip to Des Voeux Peak offers one of the most spectacular experiences on Taveuni. Rising to around 1,195 metres, this mountain is among the highest points on the island and offers breathtaking views across Taveuni, nearby islands and the lush interior rainforest.
The journey usually begins with a 4WD drive up the mountain road with a local guide. From the drop-off point, guests can enjoy a scenic hike of around an hour through dense rainforest to reach the crater lake known as Lake Tagimoucia.
This remote lake sits high in an ancient volcanic crater and is famous for the rare Tagimoucia, Fiji’s national flower, which grows only in this unique environment. During the blooming season — typically October to December — the hillsides around the lake are dotted with clusters of striking red and white flowers.
Along the way, the rainforest is alive with birdlife, making this area popular with birdwatchers hoping to spot species such as the Orange Dove and Blue-crested Flycatcher.
We can arrange a local guide and 4WD transport for this adventure, ensuring you reach the trail safely and enjoy the experience while learning about the plants, wildlife and legends surrounding this special place.
